Snow Day!

I haven't abandoned you guys I promise!! Life's just gotten a bit crazy. My grandmother moved in and she's been a complete terror since. I've never been able to get along with her but it's so much worse living with her. So needless to say I haven't had much good stuff to post lately.

But! We have a blizzard! And those are always fun so here's some pics from today:

The last one I shot around dinner time. 18 inches. I think we are up to 2ft now and it's supposed to snow till tomorrow night haha! Going to work tomorrow is gonna be an adventure! And if work gets cancelled, well, then I guess it's time to wage epic snow war on the neighbors!!

I can cross off another doll off my wishlist! I got an UNOA LUSIS!! Yay!

I had gotten her faceplate several months ago but only now was able to get a body for her. She's on a Fairyland A-Line Minifee body and it's wonderful! A perfect fit! I've named her Una (because it kinda sounds like Unoa... so not creative I know)

Her and Mei look great together! Now I just need to figure out what their story is :)

Well work has just been nuts! I haven't really had much time to myself lately. I did get a new doll though through a lot of good luck! Her name is Mei and she's a Supia Minisup Yisol.

I also got an Unoa Lusis head which I'm waiting on a body from Fairyland for! The two of them will probably be hanging out all the time but I don't have backstories for them yet.

So I'm running low on faceup supplies and I'm really wanting to upgrade to some much nicer stuff but it's all very expensive. So I decided to make myself a sort of art supply wishlist so I could keep track of the names of all the stuff I want.

I really want some high quality pastels like Schmincke or Volks. Mine are getting mostly used up and they've also gotten really mixed together so the colors have gotten very polluted.

I also need some brushes... I usually buy my stuff from the local art store but it's all very cheap quality and I'm starting to get tired of it. Zoukei-mura makes brushes specifically for doll painting so I'd love to try them out and see how much nicer they are.

This is a big I WISH. It's an Iwata Custom Micron CM-SB airbrush. I've been wanting to do airbrush faceups for years but I've never been disciplined enough to save up for an airbrush. But, once I finally save up the money, this is the one I want :)

COBJD meet @ Tiny Town

So the local doll group I run with my friend Shlee had a meetup yesterday at Tiny Town in Morrison. This weekend is their last weekend of the season so we wanted to take advantage. Tiny Town was so much fun! Most of the buildings are the perfect size for YoSD and Barbie sized dolls. I took over 100 pictures but here's a few of my faves:

Tiny Town is so great! If you live in Colorado you should definitely go! Totally worth my $5 :)

Harvesting apples!

So fall is quickly approaching which is my favorite time of year! Some of our leaves are already starting to turn. I'm so excited for the cooler weather and cute sweaters, scarves and boots! It also means time for harvest and I love food so it's really no wonder it's my favorite time of year!

Today Mom and I decided it was time to pick the apples from our tree.

They fall down into the net that helps to keep the squirrels from eating them...

...and mom gathers them up. Easy as pie right?

They are so bright and pretty!

We filled the sink full of apples as well as this huge bowl haha! I think we are gonna be having a ton of apple pie this fall! We are going to peel, slice and freeze them so that way we can have them for next year too. The vegetable garden I planted in the spring is almost ready to be harvested too! We've gotten a bunch of really good tomatoes from it and we've got a big cucumber growing too.... I'm hoping we'll get some corn and zucchini too but so far nothing's showing up. Anyways I hope you all have a wonderful day!

Botanic Gardens COBJD meet

So our local doll group (the COBJD) went to the Botanic Gardens and I of course forgot my camera which I had specially repaired just for the meet >_< But I was able to snag Wyntormoon's camera to get a couple shots. I found it's really hard to work with a camera I'm not familiar with. Wyntormoon and I are planning on going back again though to get better pictures in a month or two. I'm still alive I promise! I've had a busy month! I finally got a job which is nice... it's not a job I really wanted but at least I can pay bills. I'm organizing a meetup with out local doll group next weekend so I'll have pictures of that soon but for now here's Kael and Abby:

Sakura Festival

So today Darcy, Olivia and I went to the Denver Cherry Blossom Festival with Wyntormoon's family. It was really fun they had lots of Japanese venders and entertainers and food. We also walked around the 16th street mall. I brought my camera to snap several photos:

Meet Dorian

So I got to check off a dolly on my wishlist! Through a trade with a super nice girl on DoA I was able to get a Delf El head. Right now he is on a cloth body but I'm saving up for a FDoll body which are supposed to be wonderfully poseable despite the super cheap price tag. Anyways he is tentatively named Dorian Wood and it seems like Darcy is a little smitten with him. I'll have more pictures after July 30th because I'll be borrowing a body from a friend and taking the two of them to the Botanic Gardens on our next COBJD meet to get lots of pictures of them together. I went to the Denver Botanic Gardens today. My friend Eric got a new camera so we went on a photo venture! I decided to only bring my small Sony Cybershot which is just a point and shoot but I somehow manages to still get a few good shots! I took 230 photos and I ended up liking 28 of them. Nostalgic...

So we just got a LEGO store in our mall and it's awesome! I went with Wyntormoon's husband and their little man and it was so much fun. They have a giant Yoda built out of legos in the front of the store and all along the back is a wall filled with different kinds of lego bricks just like in a candy store:

This inspired me to go home and put together all my sets. Turns out I'm missing a few pieces so I may go back and get some of the pieces I'm missing. It was really fun and nostalgic to go back and play with them but I realized I had some sets that I didn't have instructions for... so I started to hunt! I found a couple really good resources online for figuring out which sets your pieces go to and instructions for specific sets. http://en.bricker.ru/ helped me recognize some of the pieces and sets and http://www.toysperiod.com/lego-set-reference/ helped me find the instructions :) It was cool finding sets I hadn't realized I had haha!

So I've started a new project... gardening!!

I've never really been able to get anything to grow before, honestly mostly because I've never really tried before. But I've decided I want to learn so I planted a vegetable garden! I started with seedlings since in the past birds would eat my seeds. So here's the beginning of the garden:

I usually don't like to post my commissions on here but these two were so cute I couldn't resist! Yesterday Wyntormoon came over to pick up a bunch of doll eyes she ordered and to have me paint her 3 newest dolls. I had a blast painting and chatting and I'm really happy with how the twins came out especially! The blond is an Ante named Fairfax and the brunette is a Rachel named Rochester and they are acrobats in a scary circus.

The two were just way too fun! After I painted and sueded all the dolls we went out to dinner and then saw Thor which was awesome. So even though the rapture didn't happen yesterday was awesome! Haha!

Dolly Wishlist

So every year Wyntormoon puts together a dolly wishlist which I thought was a neat idea. Over the years collecting dolls my wishlist has gotten kinda long... Some I've got whole characters planned and others I just want just because haha! I have no idea if/when I'll ever get around to getting any of these dolls but there's nothing wrong with wishing. Anyways here's my wishlist:

My dream doll, Volks F-16! I haven't picked a name yet but I do know that he will be the twin of Darcy, he'll play drums and snowboard and be obnoxiously happy in general. He's supposed to be opposite of Darcy in most ways. I've been wishing for an F-16 since I was first interested in this hobby 7 years ago... hopefully one day I'll have him. Supia Lina. She will be the wife of Eli, my Dollmore Kyle Reese. She's a selkie and Eli has stolen her seal skin. One day she'll probably find it and return to the sea but until then she stays with Eli. This photo belongs to yulchek on Flickr

El. He's a very popular mold but I don't care I want one haha! I love his personality. Don't have a name or story for him or anything. He and my Chiwoo will probably be buddies and cause lots of problems for everyone in the house haha! He was originally gonna be my new incarnation of my first doll Ren but I've decided to do Ren as a LittleFee El instead. This one belongs to ♥Lorti♥ on Flickr

As reincarnations of my first two dolls, Ren and Lily Beth, I'm planning Littlefee Elf El and Elf Chiwoo respectively. Ren originally was a Dollzone Yuu and Lily was a Delf Chiwoo. I think I'll like them better in the smaller size. These two belong to Amet on DoA.

Limhwa ToYou Sara. I have Wyntormoon to blame for this one. We've been looking at 27cm dolls for her JoAnna and she sent me several pictures of this girl and I fell in love. Not sure who she'll be... maybe a ballerina. This photo is the Sara that belongs to c a r o l i n e* on Flickr.

Like many others I've always wanted an Unoa Lusis... probably never have her since they are so hard to get but I can dream! I also love the Unoa Chibis... they have the cutest facial expressions! I would love to even just paint one haha! This photo is by ***Andreja*** on Flickr.

DoD Tender Too... although he'd go on a Minifee body. This guy is the captain of the ship that Ash is quartermaster of, his name is Rowan. I'm not 100% sure that Tender Too is the right sculpt for him but he's the closest MSD I've been able to find. This Tender Too belongs to mizya on Flickr.

I couldn't find any pictures of them together but I'd also love ChicLine Rou and El. These would be my only preexisting character dolls: Altair and Malik from Assassin's Creed. I just think these two would make fantastic dolls!

Volks Lieselotte. She was a limited release with Baby the Stars Shine Bright (one of my favorite Lolita brands). Not only is the doll adorable but the dress is amazing too. I'll probably never get my hands on one of these but if I ever got the chance I wouldn't pass it up!

Last but not least, Volks Kanata. He's a fairly new standard release from Volks and I think he's totally adorbs! Another doll that I have no idea of a character for but he'll probably be making trouble with everyone else haha! Unfortunately, I can't remember where I found this photo, sorry!!

The job I currently have ends on Friday... I've been applying for jobs like crazy so here's hoping I can find a new one soon... otherwise all these dolls will have to stay just a dream for a while (plus I got school bills and stuff!!). Wish me luck!

RIP Jack

I've always been an odd girl. I love amphibians and reptiles and for the past few years I've kept a frog named Jack (named after Jack Shephard). He lived inside a sunken airplane and ate sea monkeys for dinner.

Today he passed away.

I know it's kinda weird cuz he's just a frog but I'll miss him. He used to pose like some posh jerk or float around in his goofy lazy zen pose. He was fun and had much more personality than I thought a frog could possess.

More Projects!

So last Saturday I went to the anniversary meet of the COBJD at Wyntormoon's house. Sadly I forgot my camera. I sueded and restrung several peoples dolls and got a faceup commission which you can see here. I really love how she turned out! I also gave Abigail a much needed faceup:

She looks so much better now! She even has little freckles!

I also started a sewing project for her. The other day I had to leave Denver Doll Emporium for an emergency with my dad so I just shoved her into my purse and met my family at the hospital. My mom gave me a few cross words about having her loose in my purse so I decided it was about time I made her a carrier of some sort. My dad will be ok by the way... he's scheduled to have surgery tomorrow morning which should hopefully take care of everything.

Anyways, so my friend Shlee has a wonderful carrier from Bambi Crony that I love but unfortunately they are all sold out of. So I decided to make my own! I basically traced Shlee's as a pattern. I will admit that I ended up spending more than $8 on it (which is how much one costs from BC here's a link) but I made mine more sturdy and with more customizations.

Here's mine compared to Bambi Crony's (mine is the one on the left):

What do you think? I made a few mistakes since I've never used bias tape before but I think it's pretty good! I did a lot more work on this than I thought I would... I tea dyed the striped fabric and I quilted the two together. At first I bought the wrong thing for the edges but I finally bought bias tape but had to redo it several times before I got it on right haha! Even though I kept messing up I'm happy with the end result :)

Our fox has be returning to our yard every few days. We have figured out that he is the male of our couple and we've decided to name him Inali and the female Joola which are both Cherokee words for fox (as my mother and I are both Cherokee). Inali has kinda taken over the corner of our yard as his napping spot so we usually know to look out for him there. I managed to catch him while he was awake and snapped some better photos of him:

We have a family of red fox that live on our neighborhood and they've dug out a hole underneath our porch either as a den or a place to store food we're not sure which. So we've had fox tracks all over our yard for a couple years now but we rarely see either of them. Today as I was helping my mother with dinner I noticed outside or window one sleeping by our arbor! So I grabbed my camera an snapped a couple dozen photos. We think it's probably the female because her fur is shorter but we aren't sure. Cool huh?

Year of the Rabbit!!

Happy Chinese new year! It's officially the year of the Rabbit (which is awesome because that's the name of my blog and also my own Chinese Zodiac haha!)

So anyone who knows me personally know that 2010 was a pretty horrible year for me but I'd rather not focus on all that... cuz it's pretty depressing and this blog thing is about being happy. However, I believe that the year of the Rabbit will bring me some luck and I'll be able to get back to myself again!

So as I was psyching myself up for this new year (and cooking sloppy joes and watching A Street Car Named Desire lol) my mom came home and handed me a letter I had received in the mail! (I haven't received anything in the mail but bills in a long time so I was pretty excited haha) The letter was from one of my good friends, Wendy, so then I preceded to squeal like a little girl!

I hope this little rabbit will help me through my year and I hope you all have a prosperous year as well! Rabbits are supposed to bring good luck so who knows... good stuff might be just around the corner!

New Skirt and other stuff

So I've been very sick for the past several days and haven't been able to do anything really. I've been mostly bed ridden this week but I'm finally starting to feel a little bit better today so I've started on a new outfit design.

In February is the COBJD's anniversary meet at my "adoptive" mom's house(aka Wyntormoon). She's decided on an Alice in Wonderland theme so I'm going to do a white rabbit inspired outfit and probably be given the job of answering the door telling everyone how late they are haha! So I went to the fabric store a couple weeks ago and found this really great fabric with cards printed on it that reminded me a little of one of BTSSB's Alice and the Pirates prints so I of course bought it right away.

So this is my print on the left and this is Baby's print on the right. I think the prints kinda have a similar feel about them but I think the one I found will go better with the Alice in Wonderland theme.

So I started to try and figure out what style of skirt I wanted so I drew these up using some premade skirt designs I stole from Sweet Rococo:

I've decided I really like the one on the right so now I need to draw up a design for the coordinate!

I also finished my Boyd Bears dress a while ago so I need to take some photos of it to show you guys. I modified the top a little bit to have pink scalloped trim instead of a ruffle and I redid the bows on the front using a really awesome tutorial I found... I'll try and get it all done and posted next time.

How was everyone's Christmas? I had a very low key day with my parents... my brother is off fighting a war so it was just the three of us and it was pretty boring haha! But it was good to relax.

Yesterday I went to Sk3tchbook in Littleton and explored the other shops around there. Sk3tchbook is owned and ran by my old high school art teachers so it was nice to see them and their work after several years. I was really happy when I walked in and Tom Sarmo recognized me right away! I'm definitely going to have to go back again and visit and buy some art from them. I forgot to ask Mr. Sarmo if I could take pics of the shop so I sadly don't have any but all their art is up on their website.

Baking for Christmas!

I've had a crazy few weeks! I've been doing Christmas shopping and I hosted a doll meet up (which I've been meaning to upload my photos from) and visiting friends and blah blah blah. I have some posts I need to catch up on (like the doll meet) but I wanted to share what I did today!! I BAKED!!! Which is really rare for me because I'm horrible at baking haha!

I decided to make sugar cookies since they are awesome and I wanted to use my mini cookie cutters! It took forever to cut them all out though since my cookies are tiny! But they look adorable so it was worth it!

It also took forever to frost them... I was pretty much over it about half way through so I took a break and had dinner and then came back to them

My mom and I found these adorable cupcake cups at the fabric store of all places! Aren't they cute?

My mom baked the cupcakes so that way I didn't burn the house down or poison them on accident or something... I really am crazy bad at baking haha! I decorated them though! I took a couple candy canes and smashed them with a meat tenderizer (a la Izma) and sprinkled them on top. Twas fun!

Here they are all wrapped up and ready to go to the neighbors! I really hope they enjoy them and I also hope you all enjoy your holiday season as well!

Birthdays at Reddiker Woodes

My birthday was on Friday! Unfortunately I didn't have time to finish my dress but I'll try and finish it this week and wear it next Saturday at the doll meet I'm hosting.

So on Friday my mom and I packed Christmas boxes to be shipped to the soldiers deployed overseas. It was crazy! We went to the National Guard Armory and filled probably 300 boxes.

Then on Saturday I went to Little Man's 5th birthday party at Monkey Business and afterwords went to Reddiker Woodes for movie night and a mini birthday party for me ^_^ It was really awesome so thank you Wyntormoon! I brought Darcy and Leonardo da Vinci (my stuffed lion) with me and they had a blast!

Leonardo pretty much spent the whole time chilling with Will the Wandering Wombat catching up on where they had traveled in the few weeks since they had seen each other.

Darcy spent her time up in the doll rooms feeling a bit like Alice in Winderland (which she was totally into!)

She had to try really hard not to step on anything or knock anything over!

She even met a little ghost girl!

Chase and I pretty much made out like bandits with out gifts! He got so many trucks and transformers and even a Halo RC car! I was a tad jealous of the Halo RC but I also got some really awesome stuff! Shlee and Sama got me an adorable outfit for my little girl Abby... I'll post pictures of her in it later. And Kirk and Wendy got me a giftcard to the best doll store on the planet, Denver Doll Emporiom, as well as Percival...

Percival is a Bunny Monster and I love him!!! Thank you Wendy!

So thanks everyone for an amazing birthday! I had a blast! I can't wait till next Saturday when I get to host a COBJD doll meet! I'm getting my house all decorated in Christmas stuff this week and I'm gonna bake some cookies and sew Christmas presents for the dolls! I better get to work!

Doll crazyness... and doodles.

So I got up this morning and as I was getting ready to head downstairs to work more on my dress, I noticed Darcy looked super upset... pissy is normal for her but I've never seen her upset like this it was weird... so I decided to take her downstairs to work with me. I worked for several hours and got half the scalloping done for the skirt of my dress among other things. Eventually I got tired of sewing so I brought Darcy back upstairs with me and she looked happy... well I mean happy for Darcy that is. So I figured we were cool so I put her back on her shelf next to Eli and turn around... and she launches herself off the shelf!!! So instead of putting her back I have her sitting next to me in hopes that she doesn't do anything else. Funny how I got these dolls to help cheer me up while my dad was sick and now I feel sometimes I'm trying to cheer them up instead.

Making the Dress: part 1

So today in between baking pies and getting ready for Thanksgiving tomorrow, I started making the dress! Yay! I drew up a pattern and made some mock up pieces and made sure the fit was good and then I started cutting from the fabric I'm using for the finished dress. I decided I didn't want to deal with a zipper so I wanted to put shirring in the back... the only problem was that I don't actually know how to do elastic shirring lol! But google is our friend... I found this awesome tutorial and tested it out and it worked!

So I got the bodice put together (mostly lol) with the shirring in the back so that way the dress can just be slipped on. I'm pretty happy with how it looks so far! I can't wait to work on it some more!

A while ago I bought this super cute Boyds Bears fabric from the local fabric store here and I've been wanting to make a dress with it but just never made the time to design anything. I finally got around to coming up with an idea last night and I spent part of today doing the actual design. Here's what I came up with! The drawing itself was inspired by Ruin-HCI on deviantArt

I also added my BTSSB bag because I plan on using it with this JSK. I've always wanted a mint and pink JSK and now I'll finally get a chance to have one! It's more sweet than what I usually wear but I don't care ^_^ I want to get this done in time so I can wear it on my birthday! I'll update with pics once it's done! I'm so excited!!! lol

...well mostly anyway.

I received an early birthday present yesterday of a Faryland Scar Breakaway! I was so excited because I have a character I've RPd with named Ash who had lost his right eye when he was 13. I'd been wanting to make this character into a doll but could never find a sculpt I liked and that I was brave enough to modify. The Breakaway is perfect as Ash... he looks almost exactly the way I used to draw him!

I spent most of the day today painting his face and his scarred arm... I haven't finished the arm yet but hopefully will tomorrow. I'm really happy with how he turned out! It was my first time painting teeth... it was very difficult but I love the end result. Now I just need some blue eyes and a wig for him... well and a body too but that will have to wait a while haha!

Steamy Pants

I made some pants for Darcy! I just finished them a few minutes ago! They are going to be part of a steampunk outfit I'm making her... it'll have a shirt and vest to go along with it as well as some goggles and boots hopefully. I used left over fabric from the drapes in my condo actually... the fabric worked perfectly. I did all the stitching by hand so I'm pretty happy with how they turned out.

Here's my super quickly doodled concept of the costume... I'm also thinking of ditching the vest and just going with a different styled blouse but I haven't made up my mind
